"Right now we are in a position where changes can be made," said Jones. "The headaches start when you don't have players to bring in.
"People are upset because they feel they should play and I don't select them. That's fine.
"The worst situation is when players aren't available and you have to turn to kids who maybe aren't ready.
"Yes, there were one or two upset faces at Bristol City. But they all know they have a part to play and will be given the chance to play that part.
"A big factor with this squad is the great camaraderie among players. There is competition for places and you can see that in training."
Ross McCormack could provide Jones nicest headache tonight. Jay Bothroyd is likely to be fit but does Jones stick with Michael Chopra or reward Ross with a start after he came on at Ashton gate and rescued City with a late equaliser.
"The best way to inject strikers with confidence is for them to score," said Jones. "All three subs at Ashton Gate - Ross, Burkey (Chris Burke) and Eddie - helped change the game.
"Ross had a couple of free-kicks, a good shot and then he scored. That in itself will be a massive injection of confidence for him.
"Now does he start or sit on the bench?
"My decision will come down to what I feel is best for the match against Watford."
McCormack is expecting to be on the bench but is ready when called for.
"To be honest, I don't expect to be starting on Wednesday," admitted McCormack.
"The gaffer won't play me in my preferred position as Jay and 'Chops' are his two up front.
"All I can do is put my head down, work hard and wait for the next chance.
"It's a bit disappointing going from scoring 16 goals to being dropped, but I have to be professional about it and get on with it.
"I've scored 17 goals now and, if somebody had given me that in my first season at this level, then I would have been pleased with that."
