"For an hour against Derby I thought we did all right and we could have been in front," said Jones.
"But there were one or two tired bodies and youngsters by the end and it turned out to be a big learning curve for them.
"It was just a matter of us not picking up any injuries and we havent, so I am pleased about that.
"This was just about getting through the game and making sure one or two players had their run out.
"It was a nothing game but a lot of thought still went into it.
"There is a momentum in the football club and this result wont mean anything.
"We know what we have to do. The momentum is there, I can promise you that.
Meanwhile Derby County boss Nigel Clough was happy to see his side win on the final day.
"It was a lovely way to end the season," said Clough.
"Although there was nothing at stake, we played some decent football, scored a couple of good goals, got some youngsters on the pitch and finished with a win.
"It's an improvement on last season. We have a higher league position and more points, so it represents a little bit of progress.
"We have also managed to get a little more off the wage bill at the club and the average age of the squad is coming down as well, so there are small grounds for optimism.
"But we feel we are a better side than 14th and we will be looking to get in the top half of the table next season."
