"Winning is a nice habit to have," he told BBC Sport Wales.
"Losing is the worst habit in football or any sport so we're pleased with our start."
Jones admits his side should have picked up the maximum nine points available from their opening three fixtures - the draw coming against Blackpool last weekend.
Their good start has been largely down to the form of striker Michael Chopra who has found the net six times in those three games.
Re-signed permanently for £4m in the summer from Sunderland the 25-year-old has set a target of 30 goals this season, but Jones has different views.
"He should have set it higher," said Jones. "Players all have their targets and want to do well but what happens if he reaches that halfway through the season?
"He's just got to keep doing what he's doing and work hard - let your feet do the talking because pressure is going to mount."
Bristol City have an in-form striker of their own in £2.25m club-record signing Nicky Maynard.
The former Crewe striker has started his second season at Ashton Gate with three league and cup goals.
And Jones knows to expect a tough battle from Gary Johnson's side after drawing both games last season and winning one each the season before.
"They will be tough, hard working, have good players and they will want to win," added Jones.
"They fancy their chances just as much as we would fancy our chances going there away from home.
"They won't come and defend, they will try and get the win.
"They did it last year and the year before and we've got to try and stifle that and then try and play our football."
