"It's nice to do it without relying on other people," he said.
Jones must now keep his side motivated as thay embark ona play off campaign that could see the club promoted to the top flight for the first time in 50 years.
"I've said to the players that it is a fantastic achievement, but it is only the first part of the achievement." Jones continued.
"It's no good getting there and then not having a right good go at it.
"We've got good momentum going and I don't see any need to take our feet off the gas.
"But I do know my players are a good bunch and it's different to last year. They have a quiet confidence about them.
"Maybe one of the differences is that with the size of the squad we have. A few more of the squad players have stepped up to the mark when last year they didn't. Players fell by the wayside.
"With all that's happened at the club this season it is nice to get there with two games to go, but I don't want it spoilt.
"They won't be allowed to do that anyway because I will be into them big time over the next few days."
Q.P.R. bos Neil Warnock rued his sides missed chances and wished Cardiff good luck in their efforts to go up.
"I told Cardiff to make sure they go up because next season we will be a different ball game," he said.
"We need to get though this season and then look to enjoy ourselves next year.
"You need goals to win games and we don't look like scoring goals. It's frustrating."
