"Here the lesson to learn was to keep a clean sheet, but we did not do that so you could say we have not learned our lesson," said Dave Jones.
"But it was a battling performance. We totally dominated the first half. In the second half, when they put on all the big guns, we knew what was going to happen, we knew there were going to be balls into our box and I thought we dealt with that quite well.
"We wanted to make sure the criticism they have had of late was put to bed and we have done that.
"Within that we still had to get the ball down and play. Some of the build-up play was good against a strong side. But you give teams hope when it is 2-1 and you need to kill them off."
Jones was impressed by the performance of Joe Ledley. The Welsh international played in central midfield after Stephen McPhail pulled out of the squad pre match with illness.
"I thought Joe was absolutely outstanding. There were a lot of good performances out there, but for me Joe typified what this club is about.
"Not just quality, but grit and determination and a willingness to play through the pain barrier because it was a physical game.
Paul Parry's goal saved him a roasting from the boss. Parry scored City's winner seven minutes after Burnley had levelled.
"I was going to throttle Paul Parry, good job he got his goal because he cost me the equaliser. He should have gone with the man and it is those lapses in concentration that we have to cut out. But then he has gone and scored a great goal so basically he has got away with it. He should have had a few more and Joe should have had a few more."
Burnley manager Steve Cotterill thought his team deserved something from the game.
"I thought at 1-1 we were the side who were going to go on and win it. I felt quietly comfortable about that," he said.
"On our second-half showing we could have got a point out of the game, definitely. We're disappointed. We knew it was going to be tough coming here.
"We're playing alright, we are playing good football. I'll tell you, in the second-half I was a lot more comfortable than Dave Jones was without a doubt."
"We gambled by putting on all three subs for the second period and it almost paid off."
