"I met him out in the US, I spoke to him and asked what he was doing and when I looked on the internet to check I thought he was a decent player so maybe we should sign him!
Jones of course was being sarcastic as everyone knows the quality of goalscoring that comes with Robbie Fowler.
"I met him again at a charity golf tournament at the Celtic Manor and Peter Ridsdale came up and met him. Things went on a long time but it was more of a matter of Robbie speaking to people out of courtesy.
"A lot of speculation doesn't help and that's why I don't like to give away names. I would have strangled someone if I'd lost it [the deal] because the same thing happened with Chris Killen. But I wasn't worried because he'd given his word - everything was fine, we just needed to sort it out."
While the official signature has not taken place it seems likely that there will be no last minute hiccups. The club's official website has confirmed the agreement to sign and as previously reported the world's press have already covered the story.Robbie is set to have his official announcement later today or tomorrow.
