It's now just one win in 6 at home this season as thoughts of a promotion push are starting to turn towards fears of a relegation battle.
"We weathered their onslaught but then once again bad defending has cost us," said Jones.
"Any side can score from a corner but we shouldn't have allowed them to push us back in the first place.
"Our defenders have to learn how to defend a lead and not leave the door open. We should have kept hold of the ball as far away from our goal as possible not pass it backwards or try and play off side.
"The team's decision-making is very poor at the moment and we didn't do enough in the second half to win the game.
"These are the same players who did well for us last season but we are being punished for silly mistakes."
Mick McCarthy on the other was very upbeat after he made the big decisions and influenced the game at half time and with his substitutions.
"I feel much better after this win because we have been well beaten on our last two previous visits," he said.
"We started well with an early goal but gave away yet another penalty and their second goal was of Premier League standard.
"I changed it a bit during the interval and we were better balanced after the break. We competed well and our second-half display fully merited the victory.
"Now we have to make the journey home before preparing ourselves for another long trek (to Ipswich) on Saturday."
