"It's not about one game," he said.
"When the game comes around that's when we'll be focused on it. We've got a fortnight's break and we've got to hope all of our players come back fit from international duty and get ready for Bristol City. "We'll worry about the Swansea one when it comes around - that's how we work here.
"It's a great tie and if the fans behave themselves then it'll be a fantastic game.
"It stood us in good stead last season not worrying about what was coming up next."
It will be a first South Wales derby for both Jones and Roberto Martinez. It will also be a first visit to the Liberty Stadium for Cardiff City.Martinez understands the importance to the fans.
"Everything we do is for the fans and I understand what it means to them," he said.
"It's special for them and we will treat it the way they want us to.
"But to us it's the third round of the Carling Cup, which is a game we would want to win whoever we were playing."
