Jenkins discusses Shearer link

There was a furore surrounding Shearer last Tuesday when news starting flowing from all sorts of sources that he was about to get the City job. The club remained tight-lipped, as they've done through all the manager speculation, and said nothing but Shearer issued a staement late in the evening that he was not going to be the new Cardiff City manager.

That was greeted in most camps with a sigh of relief. When asked at the press conference to introduce the man who did get the job, Malky Mackay, Jenkins passed a comment, the first one i've seen from a club official, on Shearer.

“We want to chase the dream and get into the Premiership and we think in recruiting Malky we’ve got a manager who’s got the drive and ambition to help get us there,” said Jenkins

“We looked at several options and Alan Shearer has come out in public and said he was one of them – but when we looked around at the options, we came back to one man.

“We wanted a man who was hard-working, ambitious, disciplined and someone we felt was driven to succeed and we felt that was Malky Mackay.”
