Sam Hammam will start work on trying get planning permission for a new Stadium for Cardiff City. Hammam knows we need a new stadium to put us in a position to compete at a higher level.

"The key to doing that is the stadium. We are at a very advanced stage of planning but that is where our immediate plans lie.

"If we had the new stadium we could be extremely aggressive and we would want to take as quickly as possible a step forward.

"We have to sit down and think: 'Do we want to take a gamble?' With the new stadium in place we would expect to give any club in the First Division a run for their money because of our investment.

"Cardiff is not just a football club, it is an institution which brings happiness to the whole nation of Wales. I have a deep sense of purpose in what I am doing.

"Every club has ambition, but being in the First Division is not a big deal and I hope that one day we can deliver to the fans what they deserve."

"We do not need the stadium. We need the planning for the stadium.

"Once we get the planning for the stadium then the money that comes with it and the backing which the financial institutions will give us will be far different to not having the stadium and staying at Ninian Park. It is going to happen."

City's promotion will further strengthen the clubs claim to get approval for the Leckwith project.
