In addition to the piece below Sam tells the Echo he'll quit if the stadium deal collapses, he will make £10m available for team strengthening when the stadium is given the go ahead and high wages are costing the club £1.5m a year.

Again Sam backs Lennie saying if he had to change managers the new guy would want a budget that City cannot afford to offer.


WHEN David Sullivan took a swipe at Sam Hammam over the size of Cardiff City's debt earlier this week, you would expect the outspoken Bluebirds chief to bite back ferociously.

The struggling Championship outfit are reputed to be around £30m in the red after four years of heavy spending under Hammam.

And in yesterday's Western Mail Sullivan, Birmingham City's Cardiff-born co-owner, described the Welsh club's financial predicament as "quite depressing and frightening."

SAM Hammam, for the first time since he arrived at Cardiff City four years ago, is a man under fire from sections of the Ninian Park faithful.

He admits as much, but today the Bluebirds owner offered his latest version of the state of the club after council chiefs last night gave the green light to two of the six retail applications on the £100m new stadium.

The issue surrounding beleaguered manager Lennie Lawrence drew a somewhat predictable response from Hammam - Lawrence is going nowhere, despite mounting terrace discontent.
