Jay was always likely to be a substitute but a late club v country row involving Andy Carroll could see Jay get more than a place on the bench.
Carroll was named by Fabio Capello as a starter tonight but this morning Newcastle have asked for him not to play as he's not fully fit.
The striker has a groin injury but was passed fit to train and England feel he's fit to play. Newcastle are not so sure. Sky Sources this afternoon say Carroll will play but not for how long.
For Bothroyd the camera's have been off him while the Carroll fuss has taken over so hopefully he'll be ready for action with a bit less pressure on him.
Speaking ahead of tonight's match Jay said
"I've always been confident in my ability, maybe I didn't apply myself when I was younger, I didn't work hard enough to really reap the rewards. But now I've knuckled down, made a conscious effort to work hard off the ball as well as on the ball and thankfully the rewards are coming for me."
If he plays he will be the first Cardiff City player, while still playing for them, to represent England.
Good luck Jay.
