"Why would Darron Gibson come here when he's playing for United?" said Jones.
"We've enquired about him in the past. I will go back to Sir Alex and ask him again about Darron. I will probably get the same answer as I did last time. He will chuckle down the phone and say 'Get lost!"
"Darron is in United's team at the moment and he has scored a few goals for them this season.
"I've got a good relationship with Sir Alex but I can't see him saying, 'Okay Dave, I've got no players but I'll let you have him'. But I'll ask because Darron is on my list. January is the halfway stage and we need to kick on for the rest of the season."
A new name that's been reported in the last 24 hours is Ben Watson from Wigan. The former Palace midfielder has been on loan at Q.P.R. but that deal ends today and Watson is thought to be unsettled after Jim Magilton's sacking at Loftus Rd and might not favour an extension in West London. Rangers have today thanked him for his services and said goodbye to him.
Watson was a target for Dave Jones last summer for a season long loan. He missed out but maybe now he could get him until the end of the season.
The Echo today have made a big fuss that Steven Reid could come on loan from Blackburn. The Republic of Ireland international has been a quality player but seems to be very injury prone. He's recently been at Q.P.R. on loan but injury reduced that spell to just a couple of games.
City are short in midfield with Steve McPhail and now Gavin Rae injured. Riccy Scimeca has retired and Joe Ledley is playing with an injury.
