"He was a pest on Saturday," said 24-year-old centre-back Gerrard.
"If you need an outlet he's always willing to run for you, which is vital for the team as a whole. He just doesn't stop running."
With 14 league goals so far this season, Chopra will be looking to add to his tally when Cardiff entertain West Brom on Tuesday night at the Cardiff City Stadium.
The former Newcastle and Sunderland striker is the Championship's current second highest scorer, behind team-mate Peter Whittingham with 15, and Gerrard believes the key to the team's success is their positive goal-scoring ability.
"He's [Whittingham] been banging them in left, right and centre, Chops has popped up with a few and, with the bodies we've got, we could get someone else into double figures and we'd be near enough there."
Tuesday's game against West Brom could prove a fiery affair.
The reverse fixture in December saw Albion goalkeeper Scott Carson sent off late in the game for a head-butt on Chopra.
However, Gerrard doesn't feel the incident will affect the game: "I think we've just got to be professional and take each game as it comes.
"Obviously you don't want to let things lie, but you've got to be professional to a certain point."
