Kenwyne Jones scored twice to ease cardiff to a comfortable home win over Huddersfield Town.
The victory sees Cardiff leap to 3rd place in the fledgling Championship table after two matches played.
Peter Whittingham opened the scoring with a sumptuous strike in the 28th minute. Whittingham was fed by the impressive Tom Adeyemi and with a touch to set the ball up he rifled into the bottom corner from 30 yards.
Seven minutes later it was 2 - 0 when Kenwyne Jones controlled a pin point cross from John Brayford. Jones needed two attempts to beat the Huddersfield keeper and double his tally for the season.
The visitors struck back with the last kick of the first half. A leniant referee appeared to allow the clock to run over the two added minutes and Huddersfield profitted with a goal from Murray Wallace after Cardiff failed to clear a corner.
Thankfully it was Cardiff that picked up the pace in the second half and within ten minutes of the restart the' game was wrapped up. Aron Gunnarsson had come off the bench and was aggressive in attacking and his runs forward put Huddersfield under pressure. Gunnarsson fed Adeyemi who's shot from distace was blocked but the quick feet of Mats Daehli passed to an unmarked Jones who scored his second of the day to put City into a 3 - 1 lead.
There was more encouragement when Javi Guerra came on for Jones and the Spainard impressed in holding the ball up, making telling passes and setting up attacking play. My man of the match was Adeyemi who looks quality in midfield.
A crowd 20,749 was not bad for an opening fixture but with the actual number of people in the 33.500 seat stadium considerably less than the figure announced the ground had an echoey feel and lacked the atmosphere generated last season when it was a 28,000 sell out.
Tan's towering new stand was mostly empty casting a ridiculous red shadow across the fans who were almost all to a man (and woman) wearing blue.
Next up Cardiff face Wigan on Tuesday evening, ko 7:45pm at CCS. The Latcis were beaten 2 - 1 at Charlton on Saturday.
