Lately the clubs policy has been to stay quiet on transfers until they happen. The beauty of such a plan was proven when out of the blue we signed Steve MacClean and Gavin Rae a fortnight ago.
The opposite side of the coin was proven with Chris Killen. The player used the media to bait himself and it worked. One minute he was telling the press he was about to sign in Cardiff and then his fish bit and he was gobbled up by Celtic, his preferred choice.
What concerns me about this Robbie Fowler story that's emerging is that Cardiff City's supporters are being whipped up to expect a potential Premiership goalscoring legend, and no doubt Robbie Fowler was one of the best strikers in the Premiership in his prime, but will most probably end up seeing Fowler move to somewhere else and they'll feel let down again.
The linking of City with Fowler is like being back in the days of Sam. Cardiff City are being mentioned around the world on different websites and in different papers. Fowler still has that about him. He's a well known commodity.
How serious the club are I don't know. For the reasons mentioned above they are saying nothing. We are being led purely by the local media at the moment. I think I'd rather be hit with a surprise signing than see this dragged out for weeks. It must be so unsettling for the team.
Of more concern is the lack of a goalkeeper. We kick off pre season tomorrow and fly to Portugal on Monday for a weeks tour. The new season is 5 weeks away. We have one recognised goalkeeper in the squad and he's likely to end up as second choice.
Do we need Robbie Fowler? Can he do a job? Surely he'll offer much more than Kevin Campbell did. He'll increase gates as well. Will he have the desire though. It would be a risk to take him that could work out pure genius or it could cost the club if it all went wrong.
CARDIFF CITY have put together a major sponsorship package in a bid to sign England international Robbie Fowler.
The Bluebirds will not break their wage structure, but have come up with an innovative contract which would make Fowler the highest paid player at the club.
He has been offered a club deal in line with wage levels earned by other big hitters like Michael Chopra and skipper Darren Purse, but the deal also includes money from Welsh companies willing to help bring the player to Cardiff for a season.
Today, Ridsdale would not confirm or deny the move.

ROBBIE FOWLER is ready to genuinely consider dropping down a division and coming to Wales to help Cardiff City in their promotion push next season.
The 32-year-old striker is prepared to take up the Bluebirds challenge, if he believes he can score the goals to fire Dave Jones' men into the Premiership.
As reported yesterday, City chairman Peter Ridsdale and manager Jones have spoken to the former England and Liverpool frontman about a possible move to Ninian Park.
The trio got together at a charity golf event at Newport's Celtic Manor on Monday, where the first approaches were made.

Paul Abbandonato looks at the roller-coaster career of the Bluebirds target Robbie Fowler
CARDIFF CITY were last night told they will get a gem if they can pull off the sensational bid to land Robbie Fowler.
The message came from no less a judge than Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, who says he is astonished the Kop legend does not have a glut of clubs chasing his signature.
"Robbie has worked very hard, in training and in matches and everyone knows about his quality in front of goal," said the Liverpool boss. "He still has a lot to offer. I'm very surprised to hear of the lack of offers .
