News story from the South Wales Echo. | ||
CARDIFF City have had a window of opportunity, allowing their young stars to gain invaluable experience, closed by Fifa. The Bluebirds will no longer be allowed to loan teenage players to League of Wales clubs outside the newly imposed transfer windows. First year professionals Tony Wallis and Simon Heall, both currently with League of Wales club Haverfordwest, may have to end their loan spell and return to Ninian Park. The pair have been earning first team experience with the West Wales club and Wallis struck a 85th-minute winner in their 3-2 success against Caersws this week. Cardiff City secretary Jason Turner is currently trying to confirm whether Wallis and Heall are able to stay with Haverfordwest as their loan spells started several weeks ago. A third City professional, Martyn Giles, was also due to go out on loan, to join Cwmbran Town, but the player turned down the move. Manager Lennie Lawrence is keen for his young professionals to go out and gain experience, but because the club play in the English system they will only be able to send out players on loan to Welsh clubs during the transfer windows in August and January. The ruling involves Cardiff, Swansea City, Wrexham, Merthyr Tydfil and Colwyn Bay and, with the window now closed, it seems Wallis and Heall are likely to return. |
