LENNIE Lawrence will tomorrow stick with the 4-3-3 formation which has brought the Bluebirds away success since he took charge. The Cardiff City manager, contemplating a change in home formation, will pit his system against Swindon's three lively strikers as he plots another away day triumph.

"Swindon play 4-3-3 in a slightly different way to us and they have three lively strikers," said Lawrence. "The boy Sam Parkin from Chelsea in particular is a good acquisition for them. Full story


Prior appointment for City

SPENCER Prior will play at the heart of Cardiff City's defence in tomorrow's Nationwide League match against Swindon Town at the County Ground (3pm), writes Terry Phillips.

Manager Lennie Lawrence confirmed that Prior will start a first team match for the first time this season by describing the experienced defender as "odds on" to play at Swindon, adding that he would be in from the start. Full story

Kavanagh set to move on up

CARDIFF City are to alter their playing system in home matches to ensure skipper Graham Kavanagh is more effective. Manager Lennie Lawrence promised Kavanagh in a chat this week that he will take action to allow the goalscoring midfield player more room to burst forward from midfield at Ninian Park.

Kavanagh has not yet produced the sparkle which brought him 16 goals last season and has made him an ever-present in the PFA Second Division team for the last four seasons, but Lawrence admits it's partly his fault. Full story



Lawrence weighing up trio's fitness

LENNIE Lawrence was today considering whether his three Welsh internationals are mentally and physically capable of playing two Nationwide League matches in three days.

The trio - Danny Gabbidon, Robert Earnshaw and Rhys Weston - arrived back from Croatia last night and were back in training with Cardiff City today. All three insisted: "We're fit and ready to play."

Lawrence, however, met the trio after training before deciding whether they can play at Swindon Town tomorrow and home to Luton Town on Monday (3pm). Full story

Last season, the visit of Cardiff City brought with it an unwelcome hooligan element which left it's own trail of destruction. A number of scuffles were reported in the streets around the ground and several parked cars were vandalised in the Station Road area of the town. In fact a meeting with Cardiff can be like going back in time to the 1970's when football hooliganism was at its height. Most clubs have moved away from this and can now boast a real 'family' atmosphere, but Cardiff and a few others still seem to attract a small band of Neanderthals looking for trouble.

Swindon midfielder Matt Hewlett is expected to be absent again against Cardiff City. Hewlett (knee) missed the midweek 0-0 draw with Blackpool after catching his studs in the turf against Chesterfield a week earlier.
