End of an era as Lennie moves upstairs

Lennie's finest hour
A statement of the official website (www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk) includes quotes from Lennie and Sam.

"Cardiff City Football Club have today amicably agreed to replace Lennie Lawrence as the Football Club Manager," The statement reads.

It goes on to explain that lennie will move upstairs in a consultancy role with immediate effect. Lennie thanks all concerned and thanks Sam for his "tremendous support during my time as Manager"

Sam was equally as gracious in thanking Lennie and saying

"In my nearly 30 years in football, Lennie stands out as the one true gentleman in the manner he has conducted himself working for me at Cardiff City."

With Dave Jones admitting today that he did meet with Cardiff City last week it seems that the former Southampton and Wolves boss could be ready to step straight in.

Lennie Lawrence took over from Alan Cork in February 2002. He took City into the play offs at the end of that season only to lose out to Stoke at Ninian Park.

The following season Lennie did win promotion through the play offs. Who will forget that day at the Millennium Stadium.

Lennie has managed Cardiff through two years in the Championship, a respectable 13th place last season was follwed by 16th place this time and a relegation scrap for the most part.

Thanks to Lennie for the good times. He's not been the most popular City boss with many fans thinking he should have gone long ago.

Good luck to whoever comes in.
