"I could not have shared my goals with better fans or team-mates," he told the Echo.
"To be given an ovation like that means such a lot to me, the fans are pushing us on.
"But I'm not stopping here. There are more goals to come from me."
He'll get another chance on Tuesday when City are away at Norwich. Depending on the fitness of Jay Bothroyd, Johnson might start at Carrow Rd.
The striker from Florida has been patient while he's waited for a decent amount of playing time.
"One of the keys for me has been to be patient and accept there are guys ahead of me playing well.
"I am working hard in training and I've gone back to how I used to play, the way which earned me a move to Europe in the first place.
"I'm just trying to play football and not worry about scoring. If I do that the opportunities will come and, when they do, it's up to me to take them.
"It's been a difficult situation. I came here to play matches and have had to wait for my chances.
"You know when confidence is down because you tend to second guess yourself.
"But I focused on working hard and being ready. The competition with Jay Bothroyd, Ross McCormack, Michael Chopra and others in training helps sharpen me up.
"I have drawn strength from seeing them do well and scoring goals.
"The whole enthusiasm and motivation at the club is driving us all on."
Johnson said Dave Jones' decision to hand him a starting role against Barnsley last week was a major lift.
He added: "That showed again the people here in Cardiff have faith in me.
"I enjoyed it out there against Barnsley, whether I was winning a tackle and hearing the fans shout or making a good pass. Those things add up and help your confidence as a player. It was the same against Doncaster - and the goal capped it off.
"All that's in my mind right now is to get out there, give my best and play at 110%."
