Earnshaw firing himself into City folklore

Last updated : 29 September 2002 By Michael Morris
Rob Earnshaw is already a City legend. His scoring ratio is an amazing 52 goals in only 68 starts. Amazingly it took 6 games this season before Lennie gave Earnie his chance to start a game. He duly obliged with a hattrick against Boston.

Statistician John Heyda has been taking a look at City's scoring record in the opening 12 games of the season.

Robert Earnshaw's two ultra-big goals today (Sat 28th) put him at nine since
Lennie Lawrence gave him his first start against Boston United in the
League Cup on September 11. City have now played six games this year
with Earnshaw in the starting lineup, matching the number they had to
play before he got his first start. So, with a half dozen on either
side of the ledger, let's do a little comparison:

* First Six (all league matches): City win three, draw two and lose
one for a total of 11 points. The Bluebirds score eight goals,
including a mere three in their last four before Earnshaw's first
start.

Scorers: Campbell 2, Fortune-West 2, Earnshaw 1, Kavanagh 1, Legg 1,
Thorne 1.

* Last Six (five league matches, one in the League Cup): City win
five, draw one for a total (for comparison purposes only) of 16
points. The Bluebirds score 14 goals (a 75% increase), including at
least two in five of the six Earnshaw has started.

Scorers: Earnshaw 9, Croft 1, Kavanagh 1, Legg 1, Thorne 1, and one
own goal.

Thanks, Lennie, for having the good sense to get with the program and
start Earnshaw. Thanks, too, for letting him play past 80 minutes
today!
