City make the short trip up the A470 to Penydarren Park for the opening pre season game of the 2002/03 campaign.
It will be the first time that Gareth Whalley and Chris Barker will have pulled on a City shirt and they are sure to get a warm welcome from the large travelling support that is expected to make the journey North.
Lennie will play a different team in either half as he gets as many squad players as possible involved. City this season will again be led by Graham Kavanagh. The midfielder is looking to put behind him the heartbreak of missing out on promotion last season by leading the Bluebirds to automatic promotion this time around.
The Cardiff City squad return on Friday from an intensive training week at Lilleshall. 28 players travelled to take part, thats the whole squad less David Hughes who was ill and Andrew Jordan who actually went to Lilleshall but was given treatment on his long term knee injury.
City are now temporarily down to 29 members, Lee Kendall moving on loan to Shrewsbury today, but he will be replaced next week when Martyn Margetson joins the squad in Scotland. Margetson, a regular for Huddersfield last season, will be given a chance to impress Lennie and he could become the new keeper Lennie is looking for after initial talks with Danny Coyne ended unsuccessfully. Margetson is out of contract at Huddersfiled and cannot agree a new deal.
Will the squad numbers issued this week or the starting XI at Merthyr will offer any clues to Lennie's opening day line up at Oldham? That we will have to wait and see.
Saturdays game kicks off at 3:00pm and its pay at the gate.
