"Several other clubs had registered an interest in me and, since the end of the season, I've spoken to a few of them," De Vos told the Western Mail.
"In the end I decided that Ipswich was the one for me. The deal offered at Portman Road wasn't the most lucrative, but having visited the place it had the right feel. The facilities at Ipswich are fantastic and it's also a really nice part of the world.
"If I was going to move somewhere, it was important that I felt my family could be happy there. The fact it's a three-year deal is great because it's very likely that this will be my last contract before moving back to Canada."
Lennie Lawrence was not prepared to offer a three year deal to DeVos and admitted that the East Anglians had the edge on City their ground and facilities.
"If you compare our stadium and facilities with Ipswich's then we are going to come out second best," he said. The only way we could top Ipswich is to throw over-the-top money at the player and we are not prepared to do that."
