"If Peter walked away and the board walked away I don't know what would happen," said Jones.
"You've got to go and try and find someone who can re-live the dream again and that just seems stupid to me."
Jones gave his full backing to Ridsdale saying he was key to the club's transformation over the last 18 months.
"Peter has worked his socks off and all the board are too," he said.
"The biggest mistake this football club would make at this moment in time is if they (supporters) pull the plug on Peter and the board because they are pushing the club forward no ends.
"It's unbelievable what's gone on in the last 18 months. It's frightening when you consider the club didn't have to what it could have in the next 18 months.
"Every player here he's had a big say in bringing in because he's had to give the go-ahead.
"It's not just my decision who comes in. It's the chairman and the board's decision because they have to back it and make sure the finances are right.
"They are not doing it to fail, they are doing it because they want to do well, just like me.
"The stadium, it's there, it's all being built.
"If you take a step back and don't be biased and see how far this football club has come, where it can go and what it can achieve.
"If you don't see progress then there should be a lot of complaints.
"But if there is progress in the football club, the next step is a little bit of patience and everything else that goes with it."
