Crystal Palace v Cardiff

Last updated : 07 March 2011 By BBC Sport

If the Argentine is not fit, Lewis Price will again deputise, while Alex Marrow is back after five games out.

Cardiff striker Michael Chopra is set to be fit despite picking up a late ankle knock against Ipswich.

Dave Jones is likely to field the same side despite that result, as Paul Quinn and Seyi Olofinjana remain sidelined.

MATCH PREVIEW

Crystal Palace have been under the stewardship of legendary former player Dougie Freedman for 11 matches now (two as caretaker boss). The Scot has led his team to three victories during this time, with all of them have coming against sides within the bottom five of the league table.

Fans of fourth-bottom Palace realise the importance of beating fellow relegation candidates, but are also desperate for the Eagles to show continued signs of improvement with a victory over the division's more stable clubs. They are without a win against a side from the top half of the table since early November, and kick-off only a point above the relegation zone after Saturday's defeat at Burnley.

High-flying Cardiff were also beaten at the weekend but remain well within the hunt for an automatic promotion place. This campaign is the club's eighth consecutive at this level, and the Bluebirds have improved their league position every season bar one.

The man who guided Cardiff to promotion to the Championship via the play-offs in 2003 was Lennie Lawrence, who these days he can be found in the Crystal Palace dug-out as assistant to Freedman. Lawrence, who took charge of over 1,000 league matches during a 27-year managerial career, left the Bluebirds in May 2005 after helping to establish them in this division.

• The Bluebirds have won at Selhurst Park on three of their last four visits.

• Palace have a fine record against Cardiff in the month of March, winning five and losing only one of eight games. That defeat came in a 2-1 loss last year.

• If selected, Paddy McCarthy will be making the 200th league appearance of his career.

Cardiff

• The Bluebirds have lost only two of their last 11 games, but have been beaten in five of their most recent eight away fixtures.

• Victory for Cardiff would give them a division-high nine away wins this term.

• City need only a point to record their 400th under the management of Dave Jones.

• Defeat would see the Bluebirds slump to back-to-back defeats for the fourth time this term.
