City's summer signing for a reported £8m was crocked after a poor challenge against his at Accrington Stanley in the Capital One Cup but now he's fit and has come off the bench in the last two City games against Man Utd and Arsenal.
"I have been training with the team for a couple of weeks now," he told Ekstra Bladet.
"It's going well and I am keen to show what I can do. But I am fully aware that I have to prove myself before I get the chance to play from start.
"I cannot expect to play from the start when I have just recovered from injury. But it is only through my displays that I can convince the manager to give me a chance.
"I have got patience and I hope that the chance will come."
Cornelius has been impressed by the atmosphere generated by the Cardiff City supporters.
"Football is like a religion here," he said.
"People are getting in touch to talk football and want to know when I will be fit to play. They want to take photos and are very enthusiastic.
"What has impressed me in the atmosphere - particularly when we play at home. It's terrific. It is truly fantastic how our supporters encourage us."
