Gavin Rae, capped by Scotland, comes from Rangers. He was released by the Ibrox club at the end of the season. He is a midfielder. Last season he played in 20 games for Rangers, 10 of them starting and 10 off the bench. He signed for Rangers from Dundee Utd for £250,000 in 2004. In his career he has scored 26 league goals in 190 league starts. Rae is 29. His last Scotland cap was one year ago in a 0 - 0 draw with Japan.
Steve MacLean, a striker, joins from Sheffield Wednesday. His contract ran out at Hillsborough and MacLean has opted to move on. Last season he scored 13 goals and his career stats are impressive. The 24 year old from Edinburgh has started 97 league games (31 subs) and scored 55 league goals.
"We are absolutely delighted to sign Gavin and Steve," said Peter Ridsdale.
"That they have chosen to come to Cardiff City instead makes it a very exciting time for us.
"When Barry Ferguson doesn't play for Rangers, Rae is the captain. That shows the esteem in which he is held up in Scotland.
"And, if you analyse MacLean's goal-scoring record over the years, you will note that it's very good.
"The two players were each offered the opportunity to remain with their respective clubs, as well as being wanted by others.
"But we have persuaded them to come to Cardiff and we are delighted about that."
