BBS Sport reports that subject to international clearance, 21-year-old Kennedy should be available for Tuesday's trip to fellow League One mid-table side Doncaster Rovers.
The Scotland Under-21 player signed his first professional contract as a 16-year-old with Kilmarnock in August 2010 before signing for Everton in 2012.
He joined Cardiff on a three-and-half-year deal in the last January window.
Prior to that, he had been out on loan at Tranmere Rovers, MK Dons and Hibernian.
He made 11 appearances last season, but has been limited to just 12 minutes of Championship action this time round, as well as playing the final half hour of the Bluebirds' FA Cup third-round defeat by Shrewsbury Town.
