Richard Langley scored a first half goal that helped City pick up a point at Home Park. I felt that Cardiff were good for their lead at half time with City attacking from the start, the goal when it came was from a City corner. Ardley's cross was weakly punched to Langley who apeared to mishit his shot into the ground. The ball beat the Plymouth defenders and went in off the post.
City fans went beserk while there was a stunned silence from the home crowd. Credit to Plymouth fans, they came to support their team today. Not an empty home seat with a crowd of over 18,000.
Before City scored Rhys Weston was stretchered off with ankle ligament damage that looks like it will keep him out until he end of the season. Rhys was shoulder to shoulder with a Plymouth attacker when the linesman flagged for a foul against Rhys, I thought he'd gone down with a feigned injury to avoid a potential yellow card but the pain was obvious and the physio took seconds to call time on his participation in the game. Rhys did have one last role to play, the strecher carriers nearly dropped him as the lifted him up. He was taken away through the away supporters.
A couple of times City were flagged for offside in the first half while Plymouth went close from a shot from distance that Alexander saved well and a back post cross was inches away from Plymouth head. The half ended with City defending a series of free kicks on the edge of the box. One of which earned James Collins a booking for kicking the all away (very harsh) Gabbidon I'm convinced was also booked but the stats on a couple of websites don't show the yellow card.
The half time entertainment consisted of some Plymouth old boy and a 50 something announcer that did their best to impersonate Delia. Only the "Let's be having you" was missing.
Plymouth opened up the second half with attack their only aim. City took a battering for 15 mins before conceeding in the 60th minute. The constant pressure from corners and balls into the box paid off for Plymouth when they levelled.
Plymouth couldn't seem to keep up the ferocity of their attacks and they could not find a way to see City off. As for the Cardiff play it was terrible to watch. The defence were making last ditch challanges and blocks but the ball always went back to a Plymouth player. When we did get a chance to think about clearing the ball we kicked it to a Plymouth player.
In midfield we were lightweight and the attack had precious little chance against Plymouths defenders.
Once Peter Thorne won a header in the box but there was no one to finish.
Michael Boulding came on for Jerome (who was booked for diving) but with him and Jobi attacking it was was like Little and Little, they caused concern for Plymouth but not too much trouble. Ardley did put in some decent crosses and he apears to have a bit of passion in him.
Alan Lee also came on but had little impact.
The draw was in the end a point earned as City clould have been on the end of a hammering if Plymouth could have made more of the pressure they put us under.
I had parked my car South of the ground in a residential area. To get back to it I had to walk through a couple of groups of Plymouth hoodlums who were waiting for an appearance from the Soul Crew. The delay in getting away saw us behind the coaches, a further stop at Exeter placed us further behind the convoy.
We caught up with the busses at the Severn Crossing. You would swear a Presidential motorcade was heading into Wales. There was dozens of police cars escorting the City coaches, the whole motorway was blocked by the most over the top police escort I have ever seen. At times upto 4 police cars were covering one coach and blocking three bloody lanes.
On a day when Plymouth FC had a half time announcement to appeal for help to find a missing teenager what appeared to be the majoity of the Devon, Somerset, Avon and Gwent forces were tracking a dozen or so City coaches back to Wales.
Next up it's Stoke away on Tuesday. City have got to find a win from somewhere, hopefully at Stoke like Rotherham managed today.
