City flounder as Saints go marching in

An easy drive down from Cardiff, leaving at 10am I was parked up in Ocean Village (similar to Cardiff Bay but with more expensive boats) by 12.30pm.

A bit of lunch was followed by a short walk to the ground. St Mary's is looking a bit run down from the outside. I guess we are just used to these "new" stadiums not that they don't impress anymore. As you can see from the picture though you can safely park your bike if you decide to come to the ground via that mode of transport.

I watched the opening 10 minutes thinking that we were going to stroll through the game and pick up and easy three points. Saints were nothing special, we seemed to be able to keep possession easy enough but then we conceded a daft penalty. A cross from the right struck Mark Kennedy and the linesman flagged for a handball and the ref awarded the spot kick.

Konstantopoulos, a man with a decent CV when it comes to penalty saves, got nowhere near it. 1 - 0 Southampton.

There after the game became a non event. Southampton were the team that managed to find space although they never made many serious efforts on City's goal the rest of the game, while Cardiff toiled but ended up losing possession, getting closed down, and just playing poorly.

We had a shout for a penalty for handball that got waved away. Ross McCormack fired a free kick narrowly wide, McCormack nearly got on the end of a throughball and Eddie Johnson scooped a shot over the bar in the dying seconds.

City's last effort was a corner that was easily collected by their keeper.

So the unbeaten run is over, but incredibly Wolves lost at Molineux, Reading lost at the Madejski and only Preston from the top 8 won.

City drop to 6th but still have games in hand. Now we have two home games on Tuesday and Saturday, if we are to harbour dreams of automatic promotion then they are must win games.

Actually 6 of our next 8 games are at home. We've not conceded a goal at home since last November. Let's hope that run continues.

The drive home was easy enough as well if a little bit mooted.

Come on Jonesy, Come on City. A win on Tuesday will heal the scars of St Mary's.
