City were rocked by bad a goal on 16 mins when Luke Beckett was baltantly offside but was allowed to get away with it as the poor linesman was not up with play. It was poor from the official who repeated his offence on two other occasions.
City were back in front by half time though when Graham Kavanagh fired home a deflected shot on 38 mins.
City were in total control and apart from a lack of width on the right played a much improved game of football today.
The Bluebirds dominated possession and registed 15 shots at goal to Stockport's three.
In fact Stockport hardly seemed bothered to score even when the clock was ticking down at the end.
City looked good, passed it well and could have scored 6. Earnie was denied when through on goal in the second half, Layton Maxwell fired a cannonball shot inches wide and Peter Thorne headed against the bar.
Gareth Whalley was subbed at half time presumably from a knock, he was replaced by Layton Maxwell and Maxi did not disappoint. Earnie went off to a standing ovation just before the end. The lacklustre Andy Campbell went through the motions for the final minutes but was not a patch on Earnie.
City stay 8th but are only two points off the leaders with a game in hand. It's tight in Division 2. Only 5 points seperate the top 14 teams.
A warm day, fine football and three points followed the news that City will play Spurs in the second round of the Worthington. White Hart Lane here we come.
