Brown is on his third load spell at the Tony Macaroni Arena and will be missed by the Scottish Premier League side. He scored last week as Livingston drew 2 - 2 with Celtic.

Livingston David Martindale said: I wish Ciaron nothing but the best. He has been outstanding for us in all three spells at the club. He is held in high regard with all the coaches and players at the club and will be a big loss for the remainder of the season.

“I’m delighted that he has the opportunity to go down and show the new manager what he is capable of. I really hope he can push himself for a starting position with Cardiff City on a weekly basis.

“We feel we are more than adequately covered as we suspected Ciaron’s loan deal may not get extended. It’s no surprise that he has been called back and we wish Ciaron nothing but success.”

Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy is acting on the recommendation of his chief scout

"I'm bringing Ciaron Brown back from Livingston, because I'd like to see him, he has got a year's option and he is in the last year of his contract.

"I want to see him and what he has to offer, because he is a left-sided centre back come left back. My chief scout who I have had for years, one of my best mates, he watches the teams in Scotland, and the first thing he said to me was, 'Eh, you've got a lad up here and you ought to bring him back'.

"So, that's just what I'm doing."
