And he has recently been in talks with the Indian Football Association about playing international football.
The 10th annual awards are split into eight categories, from junior sports personality for the under-15s to the main sports personality of the year.
Past winners of the BASA sports personality of the year include boxer Amir Khan and England cricketer Isa Guha, the 2009 winner.
This year the list of nominations includes a 10-year-old kickboxing champion, Maaz Bin Saud, and Ashpal Kaur Bhogal, the first Asian to get selected for the England women's hockey team. There's also Shiv Thakor, who's currently with the England Under 19 cricket team, on tour in Sri Lanka.
The judging panel consists of former England and Surrey cricketer Mark Ramprakash, British Olympic Gold Medallist and ambassador for London 2012, Denise Lewis OBE and BBC football presenter Manish Bhasin.
"What a fantastic way to start a new decade of British Asian sporting talent," said Ramprakash.
"This shortlist is one of the strongest I've seen in my all my years as a BASA judge. It's clear to see that British Asians will be an integral part of sport in the UK."
