Ceri Hughes scored two goals at Cambridge yesterday that had Lennie Lawrence singing his praises.
"There is not another player at Cardiff City with the ability to score two goals like that, one with either foot. They were outstanding," Lawrence told the Echo.
Hughes scored both goals from long range and hopes he has proved to Lawrence that he deserves a contract. At the moment he has an agreement that will keep him at the club until the end of September but his improving form and fitness is pushing Lennie towards a decision.
"It feels right and I'm warming to the idea of signing Ceri Hughes, who has excellent ability. I'll be having a chat to Ceri soon."
Hughes himself has admitted that he will give up football if he does not get a deal.
Hughes told the Echo,
"I want to finish my career with Cardiff. I've made my mind up about that. I'd like to think I could play on for a couple of years yet, but if I don't make it I will retire from playing."
Another new face played his first game yesterday, Ryan Green came through his debut and Lennie was happy with his performance. Green is currently on a monthly contract.
