A Cardiff City XI that included David Marshall, Javi Guerra, Adam LeFondre and Filip Kiss in the starting line up beat Carmarthen by the only goal scored by youngster Dylan Rees.
Marshall, not with the first team at Shrewsbury today, is suspended for City's first three games of the season after a straight red card at Nottingham Forest on the final day of last season.
Le Fondre and Guerra are both likely to leave City in the next week or two, while the future of other players who have been loaned out like Ben Nugent, Joe Lewis, Kiss and Etien Velikonja are uncertain.
All saw action at Richmond Park.
