The first round consists of 70 of the 72 football league teams. Newcastle and Middlesbrough have byes to round 2.
The draw is split North and South and it is also seeded. Cardiff, along with the rest of the Championship and the top half of League 1 from last season are the seeds and will face a lower League 1 team or a League 2 side in the first round.
Newcastle, Middlesbrough and 13 Premier league sides who are not in Europe will enter in round 2 and the final 7 Premier League teams enter in round 3.
The first round games will be played week commencing August 10th and matches are one leg and will be completed on the night.
So look out next week for the Carling Cup draw on Tuesday June 16th, 9:30am followed by the 2009 / 2010 League fixtures at 10am on Wednesday June 17th.
