Cardiff hit with injury blow ahead of derby

Burke heroically came through the match against Leicester in midweek helping the Bluebirds to remarkably carve out a victory with just 10 men and Burke playing with a hamstring injury.

Dave Jones will assess Burke today but it's thought he'll miss the weekends football. It's a blow to City who are already without Kevin McNaughton, Joe Ledley and Mark Hudson.

Gabor Gyepes is suspended but it's been revealed that he has a torn hamstring as well and will be out for a few weeks. Mark Kennedy was a casualty on Tuesday as well.

Darcy Blake, Kelvin Etuhu and Paul Quinn are all having treatment after Tuesday's match.

The only player likely to make a comeback is Anthony Gerrard from a calf injury. He may have to be risked to cover Gyepes' absence. If not then Paul Quinn may have to play central defence with Darcy Blake - providing of course both are fit.

Cardiff City (possible)

Marshall

Defence from Matthews, Quinn, Blake, Gerrard and Capaldi. Let's hope City get two from three of the possible centre backs fit. Mark Kennedy will be assessed today as well.

The loss of Burke in midfield will see Ross McCormack start on the wing. City should have Whittingham, McPhail, Rae and McCormack available.

Up front Jay Bothroyd is back after suspension. City managed to win both their games without Jay and I don't think Jones will have any hesitation bringing him back in to replace Kelvin Etuhu who is recovering from starting two games inside 4 days after being out for such a long time.

Bothroyd will play alongside Michael Chopra.

The above is open to change though as Dave Jones will leave it as late as possible to see just who is fit for the eagerly awaited derby match against local rivals Swansea City.
