He was close to a move to Nottingham Forest last week before City stepped in and persueded him his future was in South Wales.
"Forest have been keen but I came to Cardiff and decided this is the place I want to be playing," McCormack told the Echo.
"I've looked around the training ground and seen the new stadium being built just over the road from Ninian Park and that excites me.
"Then I thought about the chance to work alongside Robbie Fowler. What a goalscorer!
"I can learn so much from him and other players at the club.
"Within the next year or two I believe Cardiff will have earned promotion to the Premiership.
"I would not have signed if I did not believe that."
