Cardiff City Supporters' Trust Set For Lift-off

Last updated : 31 March 2008 By Michael Morris

The result of the vote was greeted by applause and came after supporters had heard from Paul Corkrey, acting chair of the Trust Steering Committee, Nick Illingsworth, chair of the Saints Trust and Kevin Rye of Supporters Direct. Supporters Direct is the Government backed body who have been providing practical help and advice to Cardiff City fans working to establish a supporters' trust.

The steering committee will now press ahead with plans to formally launch the trust as a democratic, independent, not for profit supporters' organisation.

Paul Corkrey said "Cardiff City supporters have clearly demonstrated their support for a trust and with over four hundred pledges of support, we are in a position to move forward. A guiding principle of the trust will be openness and inclusivity and we would urge all supporters to get involved".

The trusts' long term aim will be to raise enough money to buy a significant shareholding in the club and get a fans' representative on the board of directors. Short term aims include strengthening the voice of supporters in the decision making process at the club and reinforcing the links between the club and the community.

Supporters can register their interest and learn more at the trust's website - www.ccfctrust.org

Speaking after the vote acting secretary Paul Russell told me

" I am delighted with response today and the result of the unanimous YES vote. The steering group will now move forward and develop the trust so it meets the legal requirements and will endeavour to make it as open and inclusive to all city fans as possible."
