Cardiff and Derby in Mustoe battle?

The 33 year midfielder has been offered a new 12 month deal by Boro boss Steve McClaren but it's reported that City could be offering a 2 year deal worth around £500,000. John Gregory at Derby is also said to have his eye on Mustoe but unnamed sources allegedly from the club claim that City would counter any approach from Derby County.

Mustoe is well known by Lennie Lawrence who managed Boro in the early nineties. A Ninian Park insider is quoted as saying

"Robbie is the type of player Cardiff want. He's still very fit for his age, he's a wonderful professional and he's well known to Lawrence who worked with him while he was at Middlesbrough in the early 90's.

"Robbie has clocked up well over 400 games at Borough - that's given him the sort of experience and know-how that will prove invaluable to City's promising youngsters."
