The City assistant manager said: "There are a couple of reasons why we lost today and they can be found at both ends of the field.
"In a tight game you have to take your chances and today we didn't do that.
"Then we gave away two soft goals and that is a recipe for defeat.
"If goals are scored against us through clever play fair enough but today they were scored because of our defensive errors.
"Despite suffering from laryngitis Dave Jones still gave the players a rollicking at half-time.
"Jay Bothroyd will be disappointed with the two chances he missed but that's football."
Forest boss Billy Davies, while happy with the win, is not getting too carries away.
"It was a very good three points but that's all it is as we are still in November," he said. "There is a long way to go and we have done nothing yet.
"I am not too excited at the moment as we have to wait until the end of the season for the big picture.
"Last year we were second at one time but still didn't win promotion.
"My staff and I know what it takes to get out of this division and we have every chance of doing that if the players listen."
