"I've been here 20 years and this football club has come through on a core value and that is to work hard on the football pitch," Scott Young explained.
"We can't start a game with eight or nine players like we did here. That was the reason why we had to make changes and take people off. We were 3-0 down and needed to be brave.
"You can't carry individuals in any team at any level of football. We needed to make brave decisions and that is what we did.
"There were a few choice words at half time but that wasn't acceptable for this football club.
"When you wear that shirt you have to wear it with pride and the minimum requirement is to work hard and have the will to want to do it.
"I can guarantee you that team was as well prepared as it had been for a long long time. But they need to take ownership of it at times.
"You've got to want to do it, that is what this club is built on. You need to show some bottle when times are not as good."
Young admits he is in the dark whether he and Danny Gabbidon, who handed himself a second debut for his boyhood club, will be in charge for Saturday's clash with Sheffield Wednesday as the club's owners continue their search for a new manager.
"Will we still be in charge on Saturday? Who knows," he explained. "We have been put in charge for (last) Saturday and for this match and I'm sure there will be conversations during the next 24 hours."
When asked if the thumping defeat had weakened his desire to take the job Young added: "Definitely not.
"This is football. There will be better managers than me who have been in worse situations than that."
For Eddie Howe the resounding Bournemouth victory, which came despite a number of changes, was their first in five games and a lift ahead of the Championship clash with Wigan this weekend.
And Howe admits that their perfect first-half display was "the dream scenario".
"The performance was right out of the top drawer and the players were excellent, it has been a very good day for us," he said.
"We beat a very good side comprehensively and that will give us a real confidence boost.
"The quality of our football was great to watch, even from my perspective I enjoyed watching it. You hope it can go as well as that when you plan a game.
"Playing as well as we did and getting the three goals is the dream scenario.
"Everything we wanted to do we did. And I thought we were equally as good without the ball, we were compact and restricted them to a few chances."
