Cardiff City have made striker Yousef Salech their first signing of the January transfer window.

Salech, who arrives in Wales on his 23rd birthday, has joined from Swedish side Sirius for an undisclosed fee which is believed to be between £3m and £4m.

Championship strugglers Cardiff have been keen to add to their attacking options having managed only 26 goals from 26 league games this season.

Salech, who is 6ft 5in, scored 11 goals in 27 appearances in the 2024 Swedish top-flight season.

He has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract at the Cardiff City Stadium and is eligible to make his debut in Saturday's south Wales derby against Swansea City (12:30 GMT).

"Cardiff City is a massive club – two cup finals in the last 20 years – so it's a big club in the UK, and I'm really pleased to be here," Salech told Cardiff's website.

"I focus on scoring goals and creating chances for my team-mates. I would say that I have a good physical package. I'd describe myself as a hard-working player who wants to do the best for the team."

Cardiff manager Omer Riza said he had been "monitoring" Selach "for a while".

"He's a strong, powerful lad who can hold the ball up and bring people into play, but he's also very good at getting beyond the opposition by making well-timed, intelligent runs," Riza added.

"He's dangerous in the box, he wants to get goals, and he's got a lot of good attributes which will offer a huge amount. I think we've got a real gem here.

"He hasn't played since November, but he hasn't had loads of rest either. He's been working hard individually over the last five weeks, keeping himself in good condition. "

Born in Denmark to a Palestinian father and Polish mother, Salech also qualifies to play for Jordan.

He joins a Bluebirds squad which is short of genuine centre-forwards, with Wilfried Kanga failing to score in 16 appearances on loan from Hertha Berlin this season.

Kion Etete only made his first appearance of the campaign last week after a hamstring injury, while the untried Roko Simic is back at the club after an unsuccessful loan at KV Kortrijk.
