Before today Cardiff had lost the last eleven league games away at Bolton with the only success in recent times an FA Cup win in 2014.
With Bolton rock bottom of the Championship and on a run of 12 games without a win today was a good day to try and break the sequence of away day league defeats.
The teams faced a battle against the elements as well as each other as Storm Desmond wreaked havoc in North West England
Tony Watt (pictured), again impressing, scored his first goal for the Bluebirds to give City the lead. Bolton levelled minutes later and the first half ended 1 - 1.
Cardiff took the lead again when Scott Malone bundled the ball home but once again Bolton levelled.
But today it was our turn to have the last word with Anthony Pilkington, a starter ahead of Peter Whittingham, volleying the winner with 10 minutes to play.
Each side created chances and defied the pre-match stats that say they were both low scoring draw specialists.
The win has seen City jump four places to 6th in the table.
Next up City face Sheffield Wednesday at CCS next Saturday. The Owls could take 6th place off City tomorrow when they play Derby County.
