Cardiff and Rangers are the two sides leading the chase for Goodwillie but Utd have put a £2m price tag placed on the striker who scored 19 goals in the SPL last season.
While prolific on the pitch Goodwillie has issues off it. He is due in court this week in relation to an alleged assault last November and he has also been charged with an alleged rape after a new year party.
Middlesbrough's Andrew Taylor is also a target for Malky Mackay. The defender's contract is up this week and Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray believes he faces a tough challenge to keep him at The Riverside.
“I’m pretty sure there will have been conversations between Andrew and Cardiff,” said Mowbray.
“I know Malky very, very well and I’m sure as soon as he got that job he was on the phone.
“The player has got some decisions to make. But I think Cardiff are a different financial club to us, they could probably match, if not better, what we could offer financially.
“In football terms I think Andrew would still like to be here playing, but the next few days will decide that.”
So far Macaky has signed Craig Conway from Dundee Utd and with pre season starting at the end of this week there are bound to be several more arrivals over the next few weeks.
