Fulham, with £11m striker Ross McCormack, were beaten 2 - 1 at Ipswich while Norwich lost 1 - 0 at Wolves this afternoon.
McCormack was subbed less than an hour into the game and was singled out by boss Felix Magath afterwads.
"He has to improve his fitness and I don't know how long that will take," said Magath.
"Ross came to us with a lack of fitness and not at the beginning of pre-season. He is not at the same level as the rest of the players.
"I wanted him to be fit when we signed him but at the moment he is not in the right shape. When he does, he will be the perfect striker for us."

The big winners of the opening weekend were Bournemouth. The Cherries beat Huddersfield 4 - 0 at the John Smith's Stadium in West Yorkshire, a result that has seen Huddersfield Town manager Mark Robbins sacked.
Watdford were in the goals as well with a 3 - 0 home win over Bolton. Kevin McNaughton played 90 mins for Bolton as he starts his season long loan.
Nottingham Forest beat Blackpool 2 - 0 with one the goals a cracker from Chris Burke (above). Joe Lewis was in goal for a depleted Blackpool who only managed to name 4 substitutes. One of those was former Cardiff keeper Elliott Parrish.
Another team likely to struggle this season are Leeds Utd. They were beaten 2 - 0 at Millwall. Fancied Brighton were beaten at home by Sheffield Wednesday.
