City unbeaten in the last two games face a Palace side who have lost their last two, the teams have met fairly recently despite being a divison or two apart for many seasons. The League Cup brought the teams together in 2000. Palace won the first leg 2 - 1 and were able to hold City to a goalless draw at Ninian park to progress to round 2. (Full history of the fixture at the bottom of this preview.) Previous to those encounters and a pre season friendly in 2001 it's been nearly 20 years since a league encounter between the teams.
Cardiff have three away games in a row coming up, the game against WBA on October 11th being postponed be cause of international call ups, it means we have a 10 day break after tomorrows game, then we face Sunderland at the Stadium of Light before the live Sky game v Coventry on Oct 18th.
Selhurst Park is one of the most difficult grounds to get to, (obviously not if you live in South Norwood) but for anyone else it's a nightmare, with a suggested 2,000+ City fans heading to South London allow plenty of time for your journey.
Palace were a Premiership team in the 90's but dropped from the top league in 1998, they came down with Bolton, who have since gone back up and Barnsley who went the other way to Division 2.
Palace are currently in 20th place, 2 points and 2 places from the releagtion zone. Amazing to think that after 3 games they were top with the only 100% record in Division 1. Since then 2 draws and 5 defeats have seen them plummet.
Cardiff are in a much healthier 9th place but as it's still relatively early days with only 10 games gone Palace could get to within 1 point of City if they beat the Bluebirds tomorrow. A win for City would further establish us as a top half of the table side.
