But Cardiff City threw a "hang on" into the works. They stated that City had received three bids. And they had given Aaron, 17, permission to speak to two of the interested parties.
"We can confirm the club has received formal bids from three top Premier League teams for Aaron Ramsey and that Aaron has been given permission to speak to two of those teams," a Cardiff statement read. "One of these is Manchester United though no deal has been done and the player has not yet agreed terms."
The earlier statement from Old Trafford said: "Manchester United is delighted to announce it has agreed terms with Cardiff City for the transfer of Aaron Ramsey subject to terms being agreed and the player passing a medical."
Man Utd are favourites with a likely loan back deal in place. A price of around £4.5 - £5m is thought to be the offer.
It's a difficult one to call. Personally I'd like to think we have the ambition to keep our best players as we attempt an assault on the Premier League. But realistically who outside of the top 4 can resist an offer from a top 4 club? What do you say to the lad? Stay here son, we'll be bigger than Man Utd one day!
It's a footballing fact of life.
My only appeal is that if we do sell that we don't continue to strip the playing staff by selling other gems like Ledley and McNaughton and we then invest in squad strengthening to make a serious effort at promotion. I've seen little over the past few years to say that we cannot compete at the top of the Championship.
Good luck Rambo. I can proudly sat I was there at Wembley, May 2008 when you won an FA Cup Finalists medal while a Cardiff City player. The boy has some future.
