Gordon has spent time at Oxford on loan and he is out of contract at the end of the season.
"Gavin's a good player. He was a little unfortunate that he did not score more goals and stay longer when he came to Oxford. I will keep a check on his situation," said Atkins.
Atkins was involved at Cardiff City under Alan Cork and since then has taken Oxford to a promotion charge in Division 3.
