Lennie has offered around £850,000 to Rotherham, they say they will not let him go for anything less than £1m. Lee showed he has what Cardiff are lack, a presence up front and an amount of skill to go with it.
After a summer of frustration where mercenary players have used Cardiff to catapult themselves to "bigger" clubs we have here a player who actually wants to come to Ninian Park.
Lee is an Irish U21 international, he's 25 now and would relish the chance to play in S Wales.
"I would be excited by a move to Cardiff." He is quoted as saying in the Wales on Sunday.
"I'm at the time of my career when my next move is crucial. I'm 25 and I have to look to the future. I've heard about the sort of wages Cardiff players earn and that's a lot more than I get at Rotherham.
"I have been aware of Cardiff City's interest in me for about two weeks. A lot of the Rotherham lads have been giving me stick about it in training - they keep asking me when I'm leaving.
"I've heard Norwich are keen on me too, but I have spoken to an old friend of mine David Hughes and he's told me about the set-up at Cardiff - it's the sort of progressive club I want to join."
"I know they have a few Irish boys there - I definitely think I would enhance my international chances down in Wales."
City were struggling in attack yesterday, Peter Thorne and Gavin Gordon are both injured. It's been said that Lee has already agreed terms with City it's just the difference of £150,000 that's the stumbling block.
Ronnie Moore is not happy at the prospect of losing Lee. His comments have always been negative about the possible move and he said yesterday
"Alan Lee can and will do better than Cardiff - we looked a better side than them. Lennie Lawrence has offered £850,000 for Alan. But the boy is a snip at £1m. It doesn't look as if Cardiff will increase their offer at this stage."
Norwich City are the only other club interested in Lee and they have only offered £350,000.
